Meet Drop Bear Rescue, the board in our examples

The made-up board used in every help article and screenshot: who its people are, what they do in Ratify, and why each one is there.

Updated

Every example in this help centre follows one board through a meeting cycle: Drop Bear Rescue Australia Ltd, a not-for-profit that rescues and rehabilitates drop bears in South East Queensland. It isn’t real. Nor are its people, its email addresses (all on dropbearrescue.example, a domain that can’t receive mail) or its phone numbers (from the ranges the ACMA keeps for fiction).

The board

Person Role in Ratify What they show you
Priya Ramanathan Company secretary Builds agendas, invites members, releases board packs, writes the minutes, resets someone’s sign-in
Margaret Thornbury Chair Reads the pack on her iPad, signs in with a passkey, votes and signs the minutes
Tom Nguyen Director, chair of Finance, Audit & Risk Sits on two boards, so he uses the board switcher; owns an action
Aroha Williams Director Declares a conflict of interest: her brother-in-law supplies the Vegemite
Daniel Castellano Observer (the auditor) Sees the agenda and papers, but not in-camera items, and doesn’t vote
Kylie Ferris Billing contact The finance officer. She isn’t on the board and only sees Billing

The committees

  • Finance, Audit & Risk: Tom
  • Animal Welfare: Aroha
  • Canopy Infrastructure: Margaret and Aroha

The story

Priya schedules the May board meeting, adds papers and releases the board pack. On the agenda is a decision on the Vegemite supply contract. Vegemite is, of course, the folk remedy against drop bears, and Aroha declares a conflict because her brother-in-law owns one of the suppliers. The board appoints Outback Spreads, Tom gets the action to sign the contract, Priya writes the minutes and Margaret signs them. Between meetings, the board adopts a new drop bear sighting protocol by circular resolution.
